So I had my baby shower Saturday! The theme was Rubber Duckies since Im having a boy & didnt want just the traditional ol' blue. The colors were Royal Blue, Yellow, & Orange.

I think it was a pretty good turnout although everybody that I wanted to come didnt come...I was a little pissed b/c they made excuses THE DAY OF saying they had to work or whatnot...which is understandable, but I had this event planned almost 2mos ahead in ORDER for you to get your work schedules worked out or whatnot, but it's ok it still was pretty good so I thought.

We talked & ate for most of the time, played a few games:
  • Guess Mommy's Belly size-Everybody except for 2 people were WAAY off w/my size. Most people thought I was just extremely huge lol. It could have been what I had on. But it was fun
  • Guess All Baby Items within 2 mins.
  • The Duckie Game- You had to guess all the ducks you could think of within 2 mins. Ie: Donald, Daffy, Huey, Duey, etc.
I received quite a few gifts..I wont name them all, but I got a few bottles, baby wash kits, medicine kit, binkys, blankets, a bathtub, a rubber ducky laundry hamper...OH! and a 5lb bag of Skittles..lol!

I do have pics but they're on my mom's camera..so they will be posted sometime soon.

to settle my paranoid mommy brain [Nov. 16th, 2009|01:07 pm]

my mom has a travel coffee mug that my son has taken a liking to. usually when he's awake and around her she pushes the button on the top to prevent him from being able to get any coffee if he gets ahold of it. well, i failed to see it on the side table this morning, and since he was asleep when she last was using it, the valve wasn't shut and he managed to get a few sips.

i'm pretty sure it won't hurt him, but my paranoid mommy brain needs reassuring.

It's that glorious time of year when we reunite with loved ones (we neglected all year), stuff our faces to excess, and pass out in front of the TV. Perhaps a recalibration of the thanksometer is in order. A spin-off of the popular GivesMeHope.com site, this community invites you to document moments of kindness, generosity, and pure human love in 350 words or less.

Despite its mainstream appeal, Thanksgiving is not for everyone. There are those struggling with food disorders, for whom this day causes endless conflict. There are the cash-challenged, who can't afford the gluttony we've grown to expect. There are the lonely, who don't have loved ones nearby. And let's not forget the vegetarians, who decry the animal cruelty. But there's one more group we often overlook: the terminally lazy! This community of lazy vegetarians offers easy recipes for an animal-friendly feast.

Just in time for holiday shopping season, this fashionista community brings you the world of haute couture in the form of sumptuous photos, video clips, and candid commentary. There's also a sugary sprinkle of mainstream movie discussions and debates on such pressing social issues as manicure styles and celebrity colonics. If you need a break from the daily grind to indulge your girlie side, this is twinkly pink on steroids.

Im 32weeks4days and have taken leave quit work early because of the sudden loss of my transportation. My husband is still working but his income doesn't cover quite enough.

We have loads of debt and zero savings... so I'm wondering how other mommies are surviving in the same situation, I want to know if anyone has had success or know someone who's been successful working from home? I've set up an Ebay sellers account and have several babysitting accounts online as well as using Craigslist to look for minor gigs that may be pregnancy friendly.

Not to mention the what to do for gifts (in the next 6 weeks)?
christmas+ husbands birthday+ two sisters birthdays+ birth of baby

*On the brightside guys...I am loving unemployment and the benefits it's had on my pregnant body.

I'm packing my bags and considering the postpartum going home clothes.
For a hopeful vaginal birth...
I don't know if I should bother bringing maternity jeans. Did you?? Were they uncomfortable?
Or should I just stick with pajama bottoms? It'll be cold when I deliver.

TIA!

ETA: Thank you all for your opinions. I'll be planning on bringing my maternity jeans as they are comfortable. Much appreciated!!

Freshly Baked Cheese Bread [Nov. 15th, 2009|06:49 pm]

My bread fanaticism began when publishers sent me a copy of Andrew Whitley’s new book, Bread Matters: The State of Modern Bread and a Definitive Guide to Baking Your Own. The book makes the case for bread activism -- avoiding possibly harmful and certainly less wholesome mass-produced bread in favor of making your own. Apart from just a political stance, though, Whitley presents breadmaking as an artform -- and one that doesn't have to be too time-consuming, at that. He calculates that a loaf of bread only takes about 30-40 minutes of active work punctuated by periods of waiting.

This was my first experience with letting a sponge ferment for days and baking it into a loaf of delicious bread -- and I'm hooked on the experience, from mixing, to kneading, to proofing, to baking, to eating! My boyfriend and I ate our cheese bread with chicken and dumplings, and then used the leftovers for something decidedly more sinister . . . :)

recipe and photos, including a picture of the PERFECT USE for leftover cheese bread )

To read my review of the book Bread Matters, listen to me waxing poetic about bread, see a photo of how entertaining kneading can be, or just to see more pictures of that amazing breakfast sandwich, please head over to my baking blog, Willow Bird Baking!

Yorkshire Pudding!! [Nov. 15th, 2009|05:43 pm]

oh yeah, and roast beef, too. And gravy, and peas, and roasted carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes. But most importantly, YORKSHIRE PUDDING.

This was my first attempt at this grand and most favourite meal. I did overcook the meat, which I think is a common issue, but it was still so so tasty. I am currently enjoying cold roast beef sandwiches with mustard.
